Congratulations to Project Armonia who was the recipient of the TEDxBaselAward in 2020

Who are Project Armonia?

Project Armonia is a grassroots NGO on the island Samos, in Greece, providing vital nutrition and basic human rights to refugees. They help refugees by serving healthy and nutritious meals to the most vulnerable in the camp. They feed people who are unable to wait in the long food line because of illness, disability or other issues.

What do they do?

On an island where refugees are often welcomed with hostility, Project Armonia’s mission is to welcome them with hospitality. They currently run a restaurant where they can feed around 800 pregnant women, children, elderly and sick people per day. Additionally, they provide 200 extra meals for other organisations on Samos. They plan to rapidly increase this capacity.

The project is almost run entirely by refugees, for refugees. By giving refugees the opportunity to run the project it is helping provide them with opportunities to learn and develop valuable skills for the future. Project Armonia’s aim is not just to distribute food, but to also provide an educational space for their volunteers by offering them vocational training where they can learn skills to improve their chances of a sustainable integration. Through the project, they bring together different cultures and empower people detained on the island.
